The Zinnia That Looks Like It Belongs in a Florist's Window

Zinnia Zinderella Peach (Zinnia elegans) is unlike any zinnia you've grown before. Its distinctive pompom blooms are built in layers — a raised, textured golden-yellow centre with a deep burgundy eye, ringed by soft blush, peach, and cream outer petals that fade and shift as the flower matures. The effect is complex, almost antique, and utterly beautiful. A firm favourite with florists and cottage gardeners alike, Zinderella Peach is as stunning in a vase as it is in the garden.

Why Gardeners Love It

  • 🍑 Unique pompom blooms — textured golden centres with a dark burgundy eye and soft peach-to-cream outer petals
  • ✂️ Outstanding cut flower — long stems, long vase life, and a colour palette that works with everything
  • 🌞 Prolific bloomer — the more you cut, the more it flowers, right through summer into autumn
  • 🦋 Pollinator magnet — butterflies and bees adore the open, textured centres
  • 🌿 Easy to grow — fast-growing annual that thrives in a sunny spot with well-drained soil
  • 🌸 Gorgeous in arrangements — pairs beautifully with cosmos, dahlias, and soft foliage for a warm, romantic palette

Growing Tips for New Zealand

Zinnias love warmth, so wait until the soil has warmed before sowing — from October onwards is ideal in most parts of NZ. Sow direct into a sunny, well-drained bed, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before your last frost date and transplant once conditions are warm. Space plants 30–40 cm apart and pinch out the growing tip when young to encourage bushy, multi-stemmed plants with more blooms. Water at the base to avoid powdery mildew, and deadhead or cut regularly to keep the flowers coming all season long.

💡 Grower's tip: Cut stems early in the morning when blooms are just opening for the longest vase life — they'll last up to two weeks in a cool room.
