Growing Tips for New Zealand

Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date, or direct sow into warm garden soil in spring. Seeds need warmth to germinate — ideal temperature is 20–25°C. Press seeds lightly onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix and cover very lightly as they need some light to germinate. Plant out into a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil, spacing 30–45 cm apart. Joseph's Coat thrives in heat and full sun — the warmer the better for the most vivid leaf colour. Avoid overfeeding with nitrogen as this can reduce colour intensity. Water regularly until established.
