White Yarrow Seeds — Achillea millefolium
A Timeless Cottage Garden Classic
White Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is one of those quietly magnificent plants that earns its place in every garden. Flat-topped clusters of tiny pure white flowers float above feathery, aromatic foliage from early summer right through to autumn — a long, reliable display that looks effortlessly beautiful whether in a wild meadow planting or a structured border.
Why Gardeners Love It
- 🌼 Long flowering season — blooms from early summer through to autumn, month after month
- 🐝 Outstanding for pollinators — a magnet for bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects
- ✂️ Superb cut and dried flower — fresh or dried, the flat white heads are stunning in arrangements
- 🌿 Feathery aromatic foliage — soft, fern-like leaves with a pleasant herbal scent
- 🌱 Tough and drought-tolerant — thrives in poor soils and dry conditions once established
- 🌾 Naturalises beautifully — spreads gently to create a naturalistic, meadow-style planting
Growing Tips for New Zealand
Sow seeds on the surface of moist, well-drained seed-raising mix — do not cover, as yarrow needs light to germinate. Sow in spring or autumn in most NZ regions. Transplant seedlings to a sunny, well-drained position once large enough to handle, spacing 30–45 cm apart. Yarrow is extremely adaptable and will thrive in coastal, dry, or exposed gardens. Cut back after flowering to encourage a second flush of blooms.
