Growing Tips for New Zealand

Angels Choir can be direct sown into well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position — do not cover, as seeds need light to germinate. Autumn sowing gives the best results across most NZ regions, allowing natural cold stratification over winter for strong spring germination. With smaller packet sizes, starting in trays is also a great option and our preferred method — sow onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix, keep in a cool bright spot, then prick out carefully once seedlings are large enough to handle. Thin or transplant to 20–25 cm apart. Once established, these poppies are low-maintenance and will fill your garden with soft, angelic colour for weeks.
