Siberian Motherwort Siberian Beauty Seeds — Leonurus sibiricus
A Rare and Architectural Beauty for the NZ Garden
Siberian Motherwort Siberian Beauty (Leonurus sibiricus) is a striking and unusual biennial or short-lived perennial that is rarely seen in New Zealand gardens — making it a genuine collector’s find. Tall and architectural in habit, it produces whorls of soft pink-purple tubular flowers along square stems clothed in deeply cut, ornamental foliage. - 🦋 Wildlife friendly — a valuable nectar source throughout its long flowering season
- 🌱 Tall and architectural — grows to 1–1.5 m, ideal for the back of the border or as a feature plant
- 🌏 Rarely available in NZ — a genuine find for the adventurous gardener
Growing Tips for New Zealand
Sow seeds in spring or early summer into a fine seed-raising mix at 18–22°C. Surface sow and press lightly into the mix — seeds need light to germinate. Keep moist until germination, which typically takes 2–3 weeks. Grow seedlings on in a sheltered position before planting out into a sunny, well-drained spot. Leonurus sibiricus self-seeds freely once established, naturalising happily in the right conditions. Well suited to most NZ regions.
