Portulaca Mix Seeds — Portulaca grandiflora
Jewel-Bright Colour for the Hottest, Driest Spots
If you have a sun-baked spot in the garden that defeats everything you plant in it, Portulaca Mix (Portulaca grandiflora) is your answer. This cheerful, drought-hardy annual absolutely thrives on neglect — the hotter, drier, and sunnier the position, the better it performs. The silky, rose-like blooms open in the warmth of the day in a dazzling mix of rich red, coral pink, soft peach, vivid orange, sunny yellow, and pure white, each flower sitting like a jewel above the fine, succulent foliage. Low-growing and spreading, Portulaca is perfect for rockeries, banks, gravel gardens, path edges, and containers, filling spaces with colour that would challenge almost any other plant. With 50 seeds in each packet, you can create a brilliant, carpet of mixed colour that looks after itself all summer long.

Growing Tips for New Zealand
Sow seeds onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix — Portulaca needs light to germinate so do not cover. Keep at 22–28°C and maintain even moisture until germination, which typically takes 7–14 days. Sow in spring once temperatures have warmed. Plant out into the sunniest, most free-draining position you have — Portulaca will not tolerate shade, heavy soil, or overwatering. Space 15–20 cm apart. Once established, water sparingly and let the sun do the work. Note that flowers close at night and on overcast days — this is completely normal!
