Growing Tips for New Zealand

Sow seeds onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix — Portulaca needs light to germinate so do not cover. Keep at 22–28°C and maintain even moisture until germination, which typically takes 7–14 days. Sow in spring once temperatures have warmed. Plant out into the sunniest, most free-draining position you have — Portulaca will not tolerate shade, heavy soil, or overwatering. Space 15–20 cm apart. Once established, water sparingly and let the sun do the work. Note that flowers close at night and on overcast days — this is completely normal!
