The Ultimate Pak Choi for NZ Gardens

Pak Choi Joi Choi (Brassica rapa) is a premium hybrid pak choi variety renowned for its vigorous growth, bolt resistance, and exceptional flavour. Joi Choi produces large, upright plants with thick, crisp white stems and glossy dark green leaves — beautiful in the garden and delicious in the kitchen. One of the most reliable and productive pak choi varieties available, it performs brilliantly in NZ's cooler seasons and is ready to harvest in as little as 45–50 days.

Why Gardeners Love It

  • 🌿 Vigorous and fast-growing — ready to harvest in just 45–50 days
  • ❄️ Excellent bolt resistance — holds well in cooler temperatures without going to seed
  • 🥬 Thick crisp white stems — juicy and tender, perfect for stir-fries and soups
  • 🌟 Glossy dark green leaves — mild, sweet flavour raw or cooked
  • 📅 Great for successive sowing — sow every 3–4 weeks for a continuous harvest

Growing Tips for New Zealand

Pak Choi Joi Choi is a cool-season crop that thrives in autumn, winter, and spring in New Zealand. Sow direct or into trays from February through to October. Sow seeds 5 mm deep, thinning to 25–30 cm apart. Prefers a sunny to partly shaded position in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly and feed with a nitrogen-rich fertiliser to encourage lush leafy growth. Harvest whole plants when mature, or pick outer leaves as needed for a cut-and-come-again harvest.

💡 Grower's tip: Cover with fine netting to protect from white butterfly and aphids — a must for brassicas in the NZ garden!
