Cosmos sulphureus 'Orange' Seeds
Bold, Blazing Orange for the Summer Garden
Cosmos sulphureus 'Orange' brings a bold, fiery warmth to the garden that is impossible to ignore. Rich, glowing orange semi-double blooms are held on sturdy stems above bushy, compact plants with slightly broader, deeply cut foliage — a hallmark of the sulphureus species. Unlike the taller bipinnatus types, sulphureus cosmos has a naturally tidy, well-branched habit that makes it ideal for borders, containers, and cottage garden edges. From summer right through to autumn, this variety pumps out bloom after bloom in a colour that radiates warmth and energy, and bees and butterflies simply cannot resist it.

Growing Tips for New Zealand
Cosmos sulphureus loves warmth and performs best in full sun with well-drained soil. Sow seeds directly in spring once soil has warmed, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting. Sow on the surface of moist seed-raising mix and cover lightly. Space plants 25–30 cm apart. Sulphureus types thrive in drier conditions and are more heat-tolerant than bipinnatus — avoid overwatering. Deadhead regularly to keep plants flowering prolifically from summer through to autumn. Performs beautifully throughout NZ in warm, sunny positions.
