Sweet, Sunny, and Bursting with Flavour

Orange Capsicum (Capsicum annuum) is a sweet bell pepper that ripens to a gorgeous, vibrant orange — sweeter and fruitier than green capsicums, with a rich, mellow flavour that's wonderful raw, roasted, stuffed, or grilled. A beautiful addition to any kitchen garden, and a real showstopper on the plate with its sunny colour. Kids love them too!

Why Gardeners Love It

  • 🧡 Stunning orange colour — bright and vibrant, beautiful in the garden and on the plate
  • 🍯 Sweet and fruity — richer and sweeter than green capsicums
  • 🥗 Incredibly versatile — delicious raw, roasted, stuffed, grilled, or in stir-fries
  • 👉 High in vitamin C — a nutritious and colourful addition to meals
  • 🌱 Great in pots or garden beds — compact and productive

Growing Tips for New Zealand

Sow seeds indoors in seed-raising mix 8–10 weeks before the last frost (July–September). Capsicums love warmth — use a heat mat if possible to maintain soil temperature of 24–28°C for germination. Transplant seedlings outdoors into a warm, sunny, sheltered spot once all frost risk has passed (October–November). Space plants 45–60 cm apart in rich, well-drained soil. Water consistently and feed with a potassium-rich fertiliser once flowering begins. Harvest when pods have fully turned orange for the sweetest flavour.

💡 Grower's tip: Capsicums are heavy feeders — a fortnightly liquid feed once fruiting begins will reward you with a bumper crop.
