Black-Eyed Susan Seeds — Rudbeckia hirta Autumn Tones
A Warm Tapestry of Autumn Colour — Rich, Velvety, and Utterly Captivating
Rudbeckia hirta 'Autumn Tones' is a breathtaking strain of Black-Eyed Susan that takes the classic golden daisy and transforms it into something truly spectacular. Where the familiar Rudbeckia offers pure yellow, 'Autumn Tones' delivers a rich, glowing palette of deep mahogany, burnt orange, russet, bronze, and golden-yellow — often with striking bicolour and zoned patterns radiating from the bold dark central cone. Each flower is unique, and together they create a warm display that captures the very essence of the season. An outstanding cut flower and a showstopper in the border from summer through to autumn.

Growing Tips for New Zealand
Rudbeckia hirta 'Autumn Tones' can be sown direct where it is to flower, or started in trays in late winter or early spring for earlier blooms. Surface sow onto moist seed-raising mix and cover very lightly, as seeds need light to germinate. Transplant or thin seedlings to 30–45cm apart. Rudbeckia hirta thrives in a sunny position with well-drained soil and is quite drought tolerant once established. It performs well across most NZ regions. Although technically a tender perennial, it is most reliably grown as an annual in NZ — it will often self-seed and return in warmer gardens. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering, or leave seed heads for birds and self-seeding.
