Growing Tips for New Zealand
Sow seeds directly into warm, well-drained soil after the last frost, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before transplanting. Amaranthus loves heat and full sun — sow in spring once soil has warmed. Thin or transplant seedlings to 30–45 cm apart. Water regularly until established; once growing strongly, plants are quite drought-tolerant. Harvest plumes for drying when fully coloured but before seeds begin to drop.
