Growing Tips for New Zealand

Orlaya grandiflora is best sown direct where it is to flower, as it dislikes root disturbance. Sow in autumn for spring flowering, or in early spring. Scatter seeds thinly onto prepared soil and rake in lightly — seeds need light to germinate so do not cover deeply. Thin seedlings to about 30 cm apart. Orlaya prefers a sunny, well-drained position and is quite drought tolerant once established. It flowers from late spring through summer and will self-seed gently for the following year. An essential plant for the cutting garden.
