A Rosemary That Earns Its Place Twice Over

Upright Pink Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) is a genuinely rare find — pink-flowered rosemary is highly unusual, and most gardeners have never seen one. While the classic rosemary bears blue flowers, this exceptional variety blooms in soft, pretty pink — a real talking point in any garden. By day it's a handsome, upright shrub with silvery-green aromatic foliage — by spring it erupts into a haze of soft pink flowers that bees absolutely adore. Equally at home in the kitchen as it is in the border, this is a plant that rewards you season after season with fragrance, flavour, and flower.

Why Gardeners Love It

  • 🌸 Unusually beautiful pink flowers — a rare and striking alternative to the common blue-flowered rosemary; a real garden conversation starter
  • 🌿 Upright habit — strong, architectural form that works beautifully as a hedge, border plant, or feature shrub
  • 🐝 Exceptional for pollinators — one of the earliest flowering plants in the garden, a vital early food source for bees
  • 🍲 Fully edible and aromatic — the same wonderful rosemary flavour for cooking, with the bonus of pretty pink blooms
  • ☀️ Drought tolerant once established — thrives in sunny, well-drained spots with minimal fuss
  • 🌺 Long-lived perennial — plant once and enjoy for many years

Growing Tips for New Zealand

Rosemary is best started indoors, as germination can be slow and variable — patience is rewarded! Sow seeds on the surface of a well-draining seed mix, press lightly, and keep warm and moist. Germination can take 2–4 weeks. Once seedlings are established, grow on in a sunny spot and harden off before planting out into a well-drained, sunny position. Rosemary thrives in NZ conditions and is very drought tolerant once established. Prune lightly after flowering to keep a tidy shape.

💡 Grower's tip: Rosemary can be slow from seed — sow more than you need and be patient. The wait is absolutely worth it!
