Honesty Seeds — Lunaria annua
Silvery Moons for the Cottage Garden and Dried Arrangements
Honesty (Lunaria annua) is a beloved cottage garden classic, grown as much for its stunning silvery translucent seed pods as for its cheerful purple-pink flowers. In spring, upright stems are covered in clusters of bright blooms that are irresistible to early pollinators. By summer, the flowers give way to flat, papery, moon-shaped seed pods that dry to a beautiful pearlescent silver — one of the most magical and sought-after elements in dried flower arrangements. Easy to grow and self-seeding freely, Honesty will reward you year after year.

Growing Tips for New Zealand
Honesty is a biennial — sow seeds in late summer or autumn for flowers and pods the following spring and summer. Sow direct or in trays, lightly covering seeds. Germinates readily in cool conditions. Plant out into a sunny or partially shaded position in well-drained soil — it's one of the few cottage garden flowers that performs beautifully in part shade, making it ideal for spots under trees or along shaded borders. Once established it will self-seed freely, naturalising beautifully in the garden. Harvest stems for drying once the outer casing of the pods can be peeled away to reveal the silver disc within.
