Blue Cornflower Seeds
The Beloved Classic of the Cottage Garden
Blue Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) is one of the most iconic and beloved of all annual wildflowers — a true cottage garden staple with a history stretching back centuries across the meadows and cornfields of Europe. Its vivid, clear sky-blue blooms on long wiry stems are instantly recognisable and endlessly charming, bringing a fresh, carefree spirit to borders, wildflower meadows, and cutting gardens alike. Simple to grow and generous in flower, the Blue Cornflower is a must for every garden.

Growing Tips for New Zealand
Cornflowers are best direct sown into their final position as they dislike transplanting. Sow in autumn for spring flowering, or in early spring for summer blooms. Sow seeds 1 cm deep in a sunny, well-drained position and thin to 30 cm apart. Cornflowers are wonderfully unfussy — they thrive in average to poor soils and need little feeding. Deadhead regularly to extend flowering. Performs beautifully throughout NZ in any sunny, open position and will often self-seed to return the following year.
